Released yesterday, July 1, and just in time for the UK General Election this Thursday, ‘It Stands To Reason’ is the angsty political anthem from kibbokid. ‘It Stands To Reason’ is available to stream and download here<\/a>. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Channelling the likes of Talking Heads, David Bowie, and Public Image Limited, kibbokid brings an alt-rock creative track that perfectly sums up the last 6 weeks of political grandstanding in the lead up to the General Election. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by the economic climate we’re experiencing as a result of the Brexit decision in 2016, kibbokid gives an incredibly nuanced take on the societal divide it wrought, and, presented by an array of characters, tells their individual narratives explaining in their own words why they feel they’ve been left behind by society, despite being misled by the government, and sold down the river by a variety of lies and conspiracies. While ‘It Stands To Reason’ feels pointed and emotionally charged, it’s ultimately quite sympathetic of the plight of the average person. Speaking of the track, kibbokid said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I saw many of these characters cropping up in the news. The place I was living at the time was one of the most \u2018remain\u2019 voting places in the country during the Brexit referendum. This was really the moment I realised that I, and many others, had been living in echo chambers for some time.” <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

kibbokid channelled the feelings of division and misapprehension into the song, writing down with pen and paper in a cathartic attempt to understand how the “other side” feels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was important to me when I was writing to show that these characters are disenfranchised by a society that has left them behind both economically and spiritually. Their situation has been capitalised on by a populist who sells them fake villains and promises of change in return for being promoted to higher levels of power, and ultimately abandons them when it is convenient to do so.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

While ‘It Stands To Reason’ is still very -sadly – relevant today, it was written 4 years ago, with kibbokid recording it during lockdown in 2020, playing all the instruments himself. He perfectly encapsulates the disenchantment of the British people with the UK political climate, and attempts to break down some barriers in thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Stoke-On-Trent but now based in London, kibbokid takes his name from the post-World War 1 fringe English social movement, the Kibbo Kift, which advocated for a return to nature as a means to foster a healthy form of nationalism. kibbokid sees his name as a symbol of hope against rising global nationalism and isolationism, reflecting his interest in alternative perspectives and human stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
