Recorded earlier this year at 6dB Studios, in York, ‘Beyond The Rubicon’ has a distinctly retro vibe, which should appeal to a wide range of listening tastes. The Rubicon sees Paul\u00a0Mahieu\u00a0from the\u00a0Netherlands\u00a0and\u00a0Paul\u00a0Griggs\u00a0from the\u00a0UK join forces, with tracks\u00a0centring on relationships having devastating splits, depression, hope and finding new love. Songs such as album opener, ‘Fly’, and fifth track, ‘Live With The Wind’, are highlights in a record filled with impactful tracks, their arrangements serving as a showcase for the artists’ talents, and the songs providing memorable riffs and long-lasting earworms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced and mixed by Dave Boothroyd, ‘Beyond The Rubicon’ additionally features Frenk Hinssen on saxophone, Emily Lawler on violin, and Joe Mantague playing drums on two tracks. Songs such as ‘The Island’, and ‘Loving You’, reflect the band’s influences, which include the likes of The Beatles, Neil Young, Chris Rea, Led Zeppelin, and Neil Finn. Slow paced tracks, filled with deep emotion, draw the listener in with relatable themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Mahieu, from The Netherlands, is a seasoned musician who started his musical career in the 1980s, playing with Dutch band, Leopard. Following a hiatus due to the passing of some band members, Mahieu returned to his musical passions, and currently plays guitar and sings with a local band in The Hague. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Griggs, on the other hand, is a lifelong guitar enthusiast from North Yorkshire, and additionally plays drums, bass, and percussion. The two Pauls met at a party in June last year, where Paul Mahieu was performing with his band, and the pair immediately hit it off, deciding to combine their talents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their name, The Rubicon, is taken from the 8th track on the album, and is symbolic of a point of no return in their respective musical careers. The pair had previously had to balance their musical passions with their professional work, but now are fully focusing on their art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
