Set for release on June 7, ‘Broken Ceilings’ is the new album from Brooklyn’s Morgan Swihart. The lead single, and title track, is very Lana Del Rey vibey; angst filled and sad yet at the same time, serving as a magnificent showcase for her glorious vocals.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The third track from 8, ‘Broken Ceilings’ is a psychedelia-infused song with Swihart’s voice floating over a slow-paced guitar, drum, and keys instrumental. Simple and stripped back, it’s an absolute joy to listen to through headphones, and is a pure expression of her talent, and a reflection of the musical genres she grew up with, such as folk music, ambient sounds, and alt rock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swihart is no newbie to the music business; she studied under Alden Harris-McCoy (of the RTs), she’s been a member of a range of bands since middle school, and even from the age of 10 she spent her school nights playing guitar in a band called Bad Coffee, with her musical inspiration from the likes of Kathleen Hanna’s ‘Riot Grrrl’, and fellow Brooklyn native, Pat Benatar. Now you can find Swihart at NYU, where she’s studying at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swihart released her debut album last year, ‘The Grave’, which saw her place as a finalist at the International Songwriting Competition. Since then she’s dropped a 6 song EP, ‘Haunt Me’.The ethereal alt-rock drive of upcoming sophomore album, ‘Broken Ceilings’, has been helped no end by drummer Pat Gerasia and bassist Mark Solomich, along with mixing, engineering, and co-producing by Albert Difiore and Grammy winning mastering from Justin Shturtz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
