Eric Straton was raised with music. Quite literally. With a father a owned a music store, Eric found himself immersed in music from a very early age, and started playing guitar, before transitioning to drums at 14. This proved to be his true passion, and before long he was emulating his inspirations, including his father’s band, and the likes of Nine Inch Nails, and joined a band of his own, The Pop Culture Suicides, in 2005.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Formed by guitarist, Zim Zum, best known as one of Marilyn Manson’s group, The Pop Culture Suicides’ industrial sound greatly influenced Straton’s strict and orchestrated drumming style. From there, Straton moved on to form We Feed Alone in 2010, alongside Doug Wagner, writing, recording, and releasing a self-titled album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal challenges saw the band take a hiatus, but Straton has returned to music with a new excitement and passion. The new single, ‘What Burns Beneath’, sees Straton reunited with co-founder Doug Wagner, who lends his gritty, and poignant vocals and bright guitar to Straton\u2019s incredible drumming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘What Burns Beneath’ serves as a mirror to the surreal, shoe-gazey sound of the song. Lyrically telling the story of fated love, souls eternally bound, one on earth and one in the afterlife, it resembles the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, but was actually developed after studying the ancient Aztec legend of Popocat\u00e9petl and Iztacc\u00edhuatl. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clip leads viewers through a variety of states of consciousness, moving from darker to brighter atmospheres. Shot during recording sessions, the video captures the essence of the song’s creation, while focusing more on the vibe of the music itself, rather than the lyrics. All the while, the drums are the anchor, pulling the entire song together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
