Neon Dreams return with new single, ‘The Art Of Letting Go’, which sees them collaborate with acclaimed South African artist, Matthew Mole. The lifelong musician from Cape Town, found his breakout in 2012, when he won the \u201cGet Out of the Garage\u201d competition, sponsored by Converse. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This was followed in 2013 by his debut album, ‘The Home We Built’, lifting him to star status in his home country. Matthew Mole’s gift for fusing genres finds common ground with Neon Dreams, and the two acts discovered their sound was wonderfully compatible – and a collaboration was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘The Art Of Letting Go’ is essentially an homage to their bonding over the mutual love of pop punk, seeing the duo and Mole swapping verses, dropping a few rap bars in here and there, and, unexpectedly, a reggae-inspired bridge in the track’s centre, joining it all together in a gorgeous amalgamation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video, co-directed by Neon Dream’s own Frank Kadillac, alongside Dan Lewis Cole, a South African director and repeat collaborator with the duo. Just as with the song, the clip is an homage to their love of pop punk, the magic of youth, and how music defines us. Opening with Mole singing in a room emblazoned with posters of the artists as they parody the likes of Green Day, Nirvana, and The Bee Gees, they all come together, while nostalgic imagery continues to dominate. A fabulous VHS aesthetic is layered over the verses, while clipart is displayed on the desktop a Windows XP computer. All in all it’s a 90s dream and if you’re of an age to appreciate that, you may well find yourself on a trip down memory lane – if not, you’ll enjoy it regardless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
