We’ve all been through trauma in our lives, and it’s up to us how we work through it, to make sense of what we’re experiencing. Artists are well able to use this pain, and musicians are no different, writing it into songs, frank lyrics, and asking those relatable and unresolved questions. With her new single, ‘Aftermath’, Jessica Carter Altman imagines a world as a veritable wasteland, blackened by the dying sun. On the one hand, this could be a treatise on the state of the world – on the other, it could be about the state of her heart. But then again – why not both?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With ‘Aftermath’, Jessica Carter Altman is at her most provocative, as she sings accompanied by a jazz-infused instrumental, with an instantly memorable chorus. It’s been cleverly arranged, and shows Carter Altman off as the start that she is. She asks those questions that we need to know the answers to, but which as yet have no solutions. The music video that goes with the song is uneasy and mysterious, with Carter Altman’s performance feeling as though she may well be destined for Hollywood next, as she preps for the apocalypse. Shot by Colt Morton, the clip shows Jessica getting ready for some upcoming threat, one from which she might never return. Her apartment and clothes are up to date, but the emergency warnings she’s heeding are being fed through an old CRT TV, and she makes contact with the outside world via a landline, all the while listening to reports from a transistor radio. On the one hand it feels out of time and place, yet on the other, it feels ominously right on time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
