Brisbane, Australia based indie-pop riser\u00a0Asha Jefferies\u00a0has unveiled her new single, ‘Keep My Shit Together’, following recent tour supports and shows with acts including\u00a0Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, City and Colour, Lime Cordiale and Middle Kids.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Originally from the coastal region of\u00a0Northern Rivers in Australia,\u00a0but since raised and now firmly based\u00a0in Brisbane, Asha Jefferies\u00a0is heartily\u00a0celebrated for her\u00a0glowing idiosyncratic sounds that lie between the indie\u00a0folk arrangements and\u00a0melancholic pop songs of\u00a0Angel Olsen &\u00a0Big Thief and\u00a0a sense of fun and optimism\u00a0that could be filed alongside\u00a0Sheryl Crow.\u00a0

Newly released single, ‘Keep My Shit Together’, was produced and mixed by Sam Cromack of widely adored Brisbane band, Ball Park Music<\/a>,\u00a0in his cosy studio Prawn Records in the inner north of the city.\u00a0 Testing her own bravery in the face of milestone-induced anxiety (in this instance, celebrating Christmas with a new partner) –\u00a0“I get sentimental around the holidays”\u00a0Jefferies proposes in the song’s opening refrain, before asking herself “Why do I stay in the city? \/ With all these angry people” as the song bounces between head-spinning indie-pop, demonstrating both assured\u00a0humour and a sense of gravitas.

Speaking on the track’s creation and its lyrical\u00a0inspiration, Asha Jefferies said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Keep My Shit Together was written one hot and sweaty day around my piano in December. While feeling stuck and existential, this song is an ode to bringing lightness to hot and heavy feelings around Christmas time. We recorded this in mid-December, air-con cranking and all in organised matching white tank tops.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Asha Jefferies’\u00a02021\u00a0debut\u00a0EP, \u2018The Pinnacle\u2019, introduced her as an artist with limitless potential. The project\u00a0received extensive\u00a0rotation across Triple J, Double J and Triple J Unearthed, with its follow up single,\u00a0‘Tank Tops’,\u00a0also being added to full rotation on Triple J –\u00a0becoming a local\u00a0queer anthem and one\u00a0of 2022\u2019s most celebrated local tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With such a wide range of influence and comparison, Jefferies’ songs are euphoric in more ways than one,\u00a0coming from the most vulnerable depths of a young woman learning to express her queerness.\u00a0Written in a time of tremendous change, discovery and exploration, Asha notes the impact of acts including\u00a0Angel Olsen, Big Thief, The Beatles, Lucy Dacus, Father John Misty and\u00a0Radiohead on her upcoming releases.

Currently adding the finishing touches to her debut full length album,\u00a0Jefferies is reflecting on honesty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen everything builds up in my head, I create these narratives that spiral around things that happened, but they aren\u2019t always the actual truth. I owe it to myself to be honest with myself, so I always want to come back into my body, to see the reality of things.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

To date, Asha Jefferies\u00a0has played notable Australian\u00a0festival slots at BIGSOUND, Icebreaker Festival, Against The Grain, Bluesfest, Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festivals. Asha has won a Queensland Music Award, triple j Unearthed’s NIDA Competition and has been a finalist for both the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition (ISC).

Asha Jefferies<\/strong>‘ new single “Keep Me Shit Together” is out now via Nettwerk. Her debut full length project is due for release in 2024\u00a0coinciding with plans for her UK live debut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
