The EP, comprising 4 tracks, sees Wharton share his stories across a wide range of genres, starting with the distinctly country feel, ‘Leaving’. Still only 19 years old, Wharton nevertheless displays a maturity to his compositions and lyrics that greatly belies his age. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Wharton has been interested in music since he was tiny, first picking up the microphone of a toy karaoke machine at age 2, and following it up at the age of 6, when he made his stage debut at an Elvis tribute concert. The experience landed him on the front page of the Omskirk Advertiser. Not content to rest on his laurels, Wharton started playing guitar at the age of 10, and his first band. He’s not stopped since, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second track, the title track, ‘Make My Day’, is a pop tune somewhat reminiscent of early McFly, with Wharton’s voice skillfully conveying all the love and emotion he feels for the person who “makes his day”. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, the track is raw and pure, bringing to it a deeply personal feeling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Track 3, ‘Meant To Be’, takes the tempo down a notch, and returns to the country folk stylings of the opening song, albeit somewhat more slowly. At about the halfway mark Wharton changes it up, dropping back the vocals in return for an amped up electric guitar solo. The track is introspective, and incredibly relatable for anyone of us who have questioned whether or not life needs to be the way it is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final track on the ‘Make My Day’ EP, ‘Wonderful’, is hugely infectious, with a melody-driven pop theme, containing undertones of alt-rock. The song examines the “some kinda wonderful” feeling one gets when they’ve found the right person. Just as with the other tracks on this EP, the lyrics and catchy instrumentals will have listeners replaying it over and over, and desperate for more from Wharton. The ‘Make My Day’ EP was written, recorded, mixed and mastered exclusively by Wharton himself in his home studio in rural northwest England, and contains something for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
