Jason Young is a man who enjoys having his fingers in as many pies as possible, and an example of this is his band Heartour, of which he is the founder, singer, songwriter, and drummer. Although he was born outside of NYC, he always yearned for a bite of the Big Apple, and when he eventually moved there, he founded the successful indie pop band The Ruse, who toured worldwide as the opening act for Muse. This gave Young the opportunity to take in the global influences that have gone into his sound today. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Now based in Venice Beach, California, Jason Young still stretches both his talents and our minds with his Heartour project, and its indie psych pop rock sound. He’s released six full-length albums, including the enigmatic, ‘Years’, dropped last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘All They Want’, from ‘Years’, is an emotional journey that starts with fast paced drums, over which are gradually laid sedimentary layers of synths, creating a wonder of psych glory. The protagonist is coming off a bad trip and contemplating making changes in how he goes about finding serenity and love. The song takes us on a cycle of sounds, going from first to third person in swift succession, emotions flowing freely. It’s a wild ride, but we’re ready for it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘All They Want’ is just one more rollercoaster journey from Heartour. Working with collage artist Laura Matikainen, the video opens up a wider psychological playground and context for the song, by way of a rapid succession of stop-motion effects, while symbolic motifs pique our curiosity about the vastness of the human mind, and all its absurdity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
