Out today from Portland, Maine artist, Wastelander, ‘Get It Right’ is a laid back and dreamy track that is reminiscent of the sound of John Lennon’s solo work. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The stage name of Cooper Formant, Wastelander is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical journey began when he was 10, when he signed up for community theatre. It wasn’t long after that when he picked up his guitar and started writing in a style emulating the artists he found on his father’s rock cassettes: Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, and of course, The Beatles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later on, at the ripe old age of 13, he performed at his first gig, and realised that this was the way he wanted to live his life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Something clicked when I heard my voice coming out of a PA system. It was me, but it wasn’t me at the same time. It was like a lightbulb went off when I realized I could be the player and the listener simultaneously. This was a singular moment for me.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

‘Get It Right’ is a song we can all probably relate to – those moments of regret when we wish we could go back and do-over everything we’ve done and said. We can go through life overthinking situations, playing them over and over again in our minds, working out the perfect way to approach it, and vowing that we’d do it that way if ever the opportunity arose again. Those loves we missed out on because we didn’t take the step we needed to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gentle, breathy vocals, are layered over rich guitars, Hammond organ, and Mellotron, giving the track a lush vibe that is reminiscent of the late 60s\/early 70s, and probably why it reminds us so much of Lennon. But there’s also The Byrds, Brian Wilson, Tom Petty – it’s the Laurel Canyon sound with a modern day twist and an east-coast vibe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
