We’ve written a lot about Sp8ce Owl and his music over the past few years, and it’s always great to catch up and find out what he’s been up to. We last spoke to Sp8ce Owl almost exactly a year ago<\/a>, and since that time a lot has changed for the artist. So, without further ado, here’s our new chat with Sp8ce Owl.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hello! Thank you for speaking with us again!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So good to be speaking with you again. I really appreciate all the exposure you have given to me and my music, and this opportunity to share!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We last talked to you about your music back in June last year \u2013 so almost exactly a year ago. What\u2019s changed in that time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both musically and personally a lot has changed. I will start with personally because it bleeds into the changes musically. In the last year or so I have spent a great deal of time working on myself. Earlier in my life I made choices to try and stay comfortable and in doing so it damaged my physical body as well as my spirit. Over this last year I have worked on both of those things. As I strengthened myself physically it woke up certain aspects of my spirit. With my spirit waking up it would be the most actualized while I made music. Now music always awakened my spirit, but with my new awareness I started exploring musical boundaries I wasn\u2019t capable of before. Now the heightened mental state I entered while creating feels like I am surrounded by infinite vibrations that envelop my consciousness as I try and pluck them out of the ether. Now is this really happening? I am not sure, but it is what it feels like. Because of music I have also gained some confidence that I sometimes struggled with, and to be honest I still do at times. The deeper I dive into music the more apparent to me that making music is the greatest single thing to come into my life, and it affects every aspect of my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your latest single is called, \u2018Stepping Into Eternity<\/a>\u2019. What is your personal concept of Eternity? Do you believe in it? What does it mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eternity has changed for me throughout my life. Growing up with a religious mother my concept of eternity was mostly based on the Christian teaching of my childhood where heaven and hell were the constructs that represented eternity. As a young man where I was mostly under a cloud of one form of intoxication, or another eternity was a diluted concept that seemed to encompass everything and nothing at all. Something that hid in the dark crevices of my mind never being fully formed in anything. Now it is about energy and vibration, and it swims beneath everything always present bringing beauty to absolutely everything around me. No beginning no end the true essence of everything around us being truly eternal including ourselves. I have felt it twice while meditating, and it was pure bliss. Intoxicating with no come down adding a vibrancy to every second i experienced it. Feeling the awe-inspiring power of the connection of all things everywhere throughout eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Stepping Into Eternity\u2019 is from your new album, \u2018The Other Side Of The Atlantic\u2019. When is that due for release, and what can fans expect from that?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Other Side Of The Atlantic<\/em> is out now, and fans can expect to hear the first EP heavily inspired by my trips to Europe. This European influence will also be heard in the summer EP release as well as the full-length album for later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who or what inspires you musically, and why? What about life inspirations?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maloya, George FitzGerald, Lane 8, Mr. Tout Le Monde, AM.ACE, Moonkids, and Deeplace are just a few of the artists that have been inspiring me of late because they make me want to explore different sounds and methods in my music making, plus I really enjoy listening to them. As for life inspiration, I get inspired by the beauty that surrounds us. At home, it is the redwoods and ocean, and as I have been traveling to Europe, I get inspired by the immense beauty that is everywhere from the building and art to the natural landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your favourite instruments\/systems for making music? Do you feel with the computer technology available these days that music making is opening up for a wider range of people who would never have considered it before?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ableton is the DAW that i work in, and I love it. I think it offers me both flexibility and ease of use that I don\u2019t find in any other DAW. Besides the synthesizers I use I use a lot of virtual instruments that I play on a midi keyboard. I do this because I can use them at home as well as when I am traveling, because they take up no additional space and there are so many options, from violins and synthesizers to pianos and any other sound or instrument you could think of. Since I have been traveling to Europe a lot lately my Teenage Engineering TX-6 has been a game changer. I use it as my audio interface with my laptop and external gear, and with it\u2019s small footprint it is truly incredible. When I go to my DAWless setup things like the MPC Live 2 and the Deluge act as centerpieces to my setup to let me add and control other gear. My music equipment becomes an extension of my musical expression and why I am always on the lookout for new gear anywhere I can find it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you could start all over again, what if anything would you do differently, and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel computer technology\u2019s impact on music has definitely opened up music making to more people and people who probably wouldn\u2019t have explored music before. It now combines the artistic and analytic styles of thinking together so music is generated in many different ways. What I personally love about it is now music has truly endless possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What direction do you anticipate your music taking you in the next five years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly I don\u2019t think I would change anything. Some of the missteps I took in the begging and on this journey have been some of the things I have leaned the most from as well as some of the biggest growth because of them. They also make me grateful for the place I am in now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My hope is to always grow more musically, but I think what I see the biggest change will be me being more open to exploring live performances which I am starting to look into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
