‘Blue Bottle’, from Vancouver indie rock musician\u00a0Night Hymns, is out now on all streaming platforms. The track with its gorgeous melodies is reflective of the love the artist has for the likes of The Beatles, and Oasis.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

“I am almost completely self-taught. I picked up the guitar only to play rock and roll. If rock music never existed, I probably would not be making music right now. Call me the latter-day slacker rocker if you like, but the very idea of taking guitar lessons seems odd to me.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Night Hymns makes use of the interesting and unusual in his lyrics; while many of us might imagine that we would like to be as “free as a bird”, the artist rather imagines themself to be a “happy fly”. It’s a different yet pleasing juxtaposition, conferring the idea of a fly (or human) living life, just getting by. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am trying to paint my impression of San Francisco with music and words. But the joke is that I am actually writing about living like a happy fly. I got the idea in a caf\u00e9\u00a0called \u201cBlue Bottle\u201d on a trip to San Francisco. The name just tickled me because it reminded me of a fat fly, probably because the caf\u00e9 was not located in the tidiest corner of the city.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

While ‘Blue Bottle’ clearly pays homage to The Beatles and maybe Oasis, there’s an element of other British bands in there as well, such as Squeeze. It’s light and airy, uplifting and fun, and well worthy of a place in anyone’s playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
