Coming from a music and entertainment family that included her grandmother, actress Loretta Young, and her father, Peter Lewis, one of the founders of 60s group, Moby Grape, it should seem only natural that Arwen Lewis would follow in their footsteps. And indeed, her eponymous debut EP, released in 2015, saw her become a name on the lips of many. Arwen’s new EP, ‘Under The Stars’, is set for release on April 28, should rightfully continue Arwen’s progress to the heavens, with new single ‘Black Moon’ giving us a taste of what is yet to come from this artist.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Originally written and recorded by her father Peter, ‘Black Moon’ is a laid back Americana track that will put you in mind of the summers that are yet to come. Interestingly, her previous single from this set was the similarly seasonal ‘Winter’. Steel slide guitar, brush drums accompany Arwen’s fulsome rich tones, that sound almost as if they’re made of plush velvet. You want to sink into her vocals, they’re warm and welcoming. The male backing vocals so closely resemble Arwen’s that they could only be her father’s – there’s so much of a familial similarity between them that I’d be very much taken aback if you told me they weren’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the new EP, Arwen said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always had a fascination for the universe\u2014it just trips me out!\u00a0Now, I\u2019m drawn\u00a0to songs that take those ideas about how vast and mysterious it all is and relate it to human experience.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

While her previous EP featured her interpretations of her father’s songs, Arwen has taken a step further in her career with her own compositions, including the wistful, ‘Man On The Moon’, and the previously mentioned ‘Winter’. ‘Black Moon’ however still fits well on the record, with its country flavoured arrangement, and is joined by covers of Jackson Browne’s ‘Doctor My Eyes’, and Joni Mitchell’s, ‘I Think I Understand’.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
