‘Parasite’, the new single from Cosmopolis, takes inspiration from a wide range of influences, including Nick Cave, Swans, Massive Attack, Joy Division, and Pink Floyd. A collective with members hailing from Brussels in Belgium, Surfers Paradise in Australia, and Canterbury, England, you know from the start that Cosmopolis are going to be bringing something interesting to the table. They’ve been releasing music regularly since 2020 and the name “Cosmopolis” comes from the European literary magazine of the same name, which was published simultaneously in London, Paris, Berlin and St Petersburg during the 1890s.\u00a0It’s testament to the talents of the individual musicians who make up the band, Gavin Kendall, Nicholas Platten, and David Hussey, because their music is recorded in a range of locations, with them sometimes playing together physically, and other times virtually. The music itself is arranged, mixed, and mastered in the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening with echoing synths and grungy, feedback-fuelled guitars, ‘we’re ‘Parasite’ reminds us of the music of Silverchair, making us wonder if Cosmopolis’s sound is actually reflective of something Australian. Creepy backing vocals and even creepier lyrics make this a very interesting, if slightly disturbing track, and yet at the same time we really enjoyed the dark vibe of the track, and look forward to what else they have on offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
