From Maryland comes experimental rock band, The Earthly Frames. The group mixes melody with melancholy on their new 11 track album, ‘Taped Over’, which comes out April 3 and is available to pre-order now from Bandcamp<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The multi-layered record comes as the brainchild of Gabriel Walsh, who plays bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, harmonium, and drums, as well as vocals. If all those musical instruments weren’t enough, he’s also enlisted the help of Neil FitzGibbon on fiddle, Daire Mulhearn on accordion, David Stone on Uillean pipes, Mike Ballard on harmonica, Nikola Ristevski on trombone, Mike Damnjanovski on tuba, Maria Grigoryeva on violin, and Lyudmila Kadyrbaeva on cello. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What could have been a cacophony is instead an incredibly nuanced work that will have you calling to mind half a dozen artists and bands at once. The arrangements are lush and spellbinding, with no layer overpowering any other. It’s gorgeous and brooding, and eminently pleasurable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
