Brie Stoner was born in the USA but raised in Madrid, Spain, and this has had a strong influence on her music, which takes into account the different languages, cultures, and style of both countries. Her new single and video, ‘Loved Me Like A Weapon’, is certainly no exception to this.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With multi-layered harmonies giving her vocals a choir-like vibe, and a languid, laid back, breathy style to her sound, plus an overall “fuzziness” to the instrumental track itself, ‘Loved Me Like A Weapon’ has a feel of a hot, bleached out summer’s day. The music video adds to this feeling as well, and while Stoner now lives back in the US, where she has opened for the likes of Sia, and Katy Perry, the sounds of Spain still fill her music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brie Stoner’s new album, ‘Me Veo’, will be released later this year, and, produced by David VanderVelde, it opens a window to her experience of sensuality, connection, and transformation across continents, time, and states of mind. Speaking of the album, she said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Spanish and American, academic and artistic, a mother and a lover, spiritual and fleshy. All of these expressions are me, and it felt good to finally bring all these different parts of me into harmonic conversation on this record.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘Loved Me Like A Weapon’ was co-directed by Stoner and Logan Zilmer, and sees her as a hired assassin, who is trying to escape the blackmail of her employers. Like a femme fatale in a French New Wave film, or even like Lisbeth Salander, from Stieg Larsson’s ‘Millennium’ series, she tries any disguise or deceit she can to find her way out, feeling, as Stoner describes, “the anguish of the all too familiar feminine experience of being bribed into silence or even targeted as a problem.” All too tragically, she faces her demise, fallen and bleeding out in the hall of mirrors of her mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
