Irish 4-piece The Academic are proud to share \u2018My Very Best\u2019, the final single to be lifted from their forthcoming album and EMI debut, ‘Sitting Pretty’, which is set for release on February 10. The album coincides with a tour that takes in dates across the UK and the rest of Europe.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On an album which packs storming stadium-ready choruses at every turn, \u2018My Very Best\u2019 pushes The Academic\u2019s talent for refinement to the fore; with the percussive snap of 80s pop and the band\u2019s eye for effervescent melodies providing the perfect vehicle for the subtleties of Craig Fitzgerald\u2019s composed delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy Very Best is a song about coming up short. We wanted to write something that could encapsulate the heavy heartedness and cruelty of feeling like you can\u2019t emotionally provide a relationship with what it needs to survive.\u201d The band continue, \u201cThe song explores the inner turmoil and feelings of inadequacy this realisation can bring.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Produced by Nick Hodgson (Mark Ronson, Dua Lipa) at London\u2019s Snap Studios, ‘Sitting Pretty’ is an album about navigating life in your 20s; the uncertainties and the ever-shifting sense of self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about the entrance into true adulthood and how that can alienate you from yourself, making you feel like you\u2019re playing a supporting role in your own life,\u201d the band explain. \u201cIn one moment feeling 100% certain about everything, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of aimlessness and lack of direction in the next.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Staying true to the idiosyncrasies that have cultivated their ever-growing fanbase\u00a0 however, The Academic persist in finding the fun and the romance within the transience of it all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUltimately it\u2019s about finding your feet, feeling the weight of time passing on your shoulders, and trying to enjoy the good times and the meaningful relationships along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

These four boys from Mullingar step into album two with unshakable intent, having been on something of a journey of discovery since the success of their self-released debut, ‘Tales From The Backseat’, which debuted at number 1 in Ireland. At the tail end of the Summer, they unleashed \u2018Don\u2019t Take It Personally\u2019, a song which puts the young masculine ego under the spotlight; in both its immovable heft and its frail fractures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the strutting confidence of \u2018Pushing Up Daisies\u2019, to the vulnerable songwriting of \u2018Homesick\u2019, ‘Sitting Pretty’ is a snapshot of a band with the world at their feet, maturing before our eyes. With the ever-growing experience, fanbase and discography of a band far beyond their years, 2023 looks like it could be a big one for The Academic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
