‘Positioning The Sun’, from London based Italian artist Quarry, was released on October 14, and he dropped another single from the long player, ‘Beyond Any Sense’. Maintaining the stark black and white of previous single, ‘This Is The Story<\/a>‘, the music video for ‘Beyond Any Sense’ plays heavily with chiaroscuro, negative space, and the ability of the viewer to fill in the blanks.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While ‘This Is The Story’ was a heart-rending dialogue between two friends – and we are still unsure of the fate of the one caught up in the black funk of depression – ‘Beyond Any Sense’ has a late-Beatles-esque quality about it; think ‘Sgt Pepper’ rather than ‘Help!’. In fact, there’s a definite Brit-pop vibe about ‘Beyond Any Sense’. Whether this is Quarry’s time in London rubbing off on his music or the result of listening to lots of that particular style – or even coincidental, it’s nonetheless appealing and enjoyable and adds to the catchiness of the song. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again, Quarry plays guitar in the video, this time it’s electric rather than acoustic, and he sings into an old-style microphone and at times it feels as though he’s accompanied by a cast of thousands on vocals. Instrumentally he’s joined by drums and piano: it’s not made clear if he’s recorded these himself, but perhaps there is a hint given when he finds a pair of drumsticks and proceeds to tap the tune on the floor. It’s a clever balancing act, and this too is shown by Quarry teetering on the edge of a box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directed by Vincenzo Campisi, as was ‘This Is The Story’, the clip for ‘Beyond Any Sense’ doesn’t take away from the impact of the song, and if anything, enhances it by its monochromaticity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
