Christina Morgan-Diaz has been on our radar for a while, most recently with her single, ‘You Are’, which features a music video that shows her going about her life. We enjoyed it so much and could relate very well, and so we took the opportunity to ask her a few questions.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hi Christina, thanks for speaking to me! I’ve enjoyed the video for your song, ‘You Are’. It’s nice to see the behind the scenes of what happens in your every day life, and that you’re just like the rest of us! What motivated you to shoot the clip like that?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was around Fall 2021 and my family suddenly was going through this crisis that came out of left field. All I could think about at that moment was, “How in the world do I get through this while having to continue working my counseling job, take care of my kids, be there for my family and stay sane?” It was then that I realized I needed to be vulnerable and show that side to my life, because so many others are going through it as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While your song is clearly about putting your trust in God to see you through, both good days and bad, I find it’s still inspirational for those without the same faith. Did you intend that or is it an added bonus?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been blessed to have grown up with friends and people who are of various faiths or who don’t subscribe to any faith at all. Even so, many of those friends, regardless of their beliefs, have reached out\u00a0in time of need to ask for prayer or ask how I survived…?” So this video is a tribute to everyone who at some point may have lost their faith or are seeking for something to hold on to that will get them through.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of God, who do you find inspiring? And what musical artists are your “go to” when you just want to listen to some music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was exposed from a young age to Blues, Folk Music, Gospel and other various music genres. The vocalists whom I’ve looked up to for years have been Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and more recently Tori Kelly, Lauren Daigle, and Tasha Cobbs Leonard. Too many to mention! Ugh! Lol\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We love your voice! How did you get into music in the first place?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My father was a Blues guitar player and managed Blues and Gospel artists during my youth. From the age of three, he would play guitar and accompany me while I stood on top of our antique dining room table, with a mic in my hand and would sing songs I made up.\u00a0 He used to take me with him to their late night gigs on Bleeker street in New York…I was probably the only kid\u00a0in the blues bar, but I loved every minute of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have any advice for those who are struggling through life?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest challenges we face in life is often financial constraints. Many of us have dreams, however, we don’t know how or don’t believe we can obtain them because we don’t have the money to do so. I urge you to take a second glance at the bigger picture and begin to notice the resources around you, because in my case it meant taking those first baby steps and making the best with what I got. Many times I had to ask for help from every\u00a0talented person I knew to train me up and took whatever amount of money I could come up with at the start of my career and began recording one song at a time.\u00a0 \u00a0From there on my dreams began to actualize and so can yours too!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a related question, what advice do you have for those who are trying to get a start in music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is very important in the music industry to have your music recorded. So if all you can afford right now is one song, then hurry up and ask for a payment plan and record, record, record! Next I would say to perform as many live gigs as humanly possible because that is your training ground and that is how you begin to meet people who will love your music and support you.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally…what question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does? And what is the answer to that question?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think one question that is very important is, how does an artist prepare right before a performance? Or for that matter, how does anyone prepare before a job?\u00a0 I was fortunate to have gotten to know one of the women from my church choir who took me under her wing and showed me the importance of spending time in prayer before the presence of God, so that when I go before an audience I have something to give out of an overflow instead of running on empty.\u00a0 That time spent in prayer, even if it’s just a few minutes before a performance can go a long way!
