Ric Laurance Hovarth, performing as Ric Laurance, is a singer songwriter, music producer, and sound engineer. His latest single, ‘Player’, with its vocals and styling very much reminiscent of Michael Jackson, is filled with surprises, none so much as the use of lute, rather than just guitar. Laurance’s father is a European Flamenco Gypsy guitarist, and this influence is clearly evident in the pacing and rhythms of ‘Player’. Another surprise occurs at around the two thirds mark in the song, as it slows down and fades out for a fraction of a second – before bouncing back with the clash of a hi-hat, horns, and Ric singing the refrain, this time taking us to the end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the song is about going out on the town to find someone to have fun with, there’s a lot of gambling metaphors used throughout, references to poker games, maxing out a bet and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I put up the bet and I maxed it, Are they gonna fold or they match me? <\/p>
I don\u2019t think they ever gonna catch me”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Such lyrics as the above serve to further highlight the expensive lifestyle the “player” is after, and the single artwork leaves the listener in no doubt as to the connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
