‘Cyclical’ is the fourth solo album from West Detroit’s DJ O-Bey. The 25 track album is an electronic masterpiece, that fuses just about every component of house music; from driving kicks gorgeously soothing melodies.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With ‘Cyclical’ DJ-Obey pays homage to the sound of Midwest House, and fans of the likes of Carl Cox, or Maceoplex will certainly enjoy the vibes. But that’s not to say there’s no appeal for any other music fans: from opening track ‘Santa Rosa’, with its ethereal female vocals, right through to the keyboard-infused rhythms of ‘Doves’, track 25, there is certainly something for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My favourite would have to be track 19, ‘WTF it’s Industrial Park’, with its pulsating industrial rhythms. I also enjoyed the robotic vocals which are juxtaposed with found recordings of traffic reports, and the repeated refrain of “the daily mail”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Track 21, ‘Starlight’, opens with a strong bass dance beat, and is augmented by a female vocalist singing about starlight. Without her voice, the track might just be like any other acid house track; with the vocals it opens it up and makes it more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DJ-Obey grew up surrounded by music – quite literally. He lived around the corner from Buy Rite Music, which enabled him to collect records, and thus foster his love for electronic music. His debut album was released in 2020, and took his music production hobby to the next level. DJ-Obey’s hope is to make it in the EDM and House Music industry, and with the improvement in quality of each of his releases, this should be easy to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
