Released August 19, ‘FairPlay’ is the new single from young indie pop singer, Castle Hughes. You can stream and download ‘FairPlay’ here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

‘FairPlay’ is the second single from Castle Hughes, and her sound brings with it a retro vibe, assisted by deep vocals reminiscent of other strong female artists, such as Amy Winehouse, and to a certain extent, Kate Bush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castle, from Perth, Western Australia, wrote the song while having a hard time during her final year of secondary school, and after having an argument with her mother, channelled her anger into the song. The story of the track draws much from this experience; the girl burns her teddy bear after fighting with her Mum, and runs away from home. At this point she realises she’s fighting a losing battle, which is reflected in lyrics such as,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“And it won’t do me good if I stay<\/p>

I am fighting uphill battles<\/p>

You’ve got nerve to love me this way”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about ‘FairPlay’, Castle said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This song was written during my last year of high school (2021). I was really struggling, seemed to be in conflict with everyone and felt not good enough. I had another argument with my mum, and this song kind of spewed out post-argument. I won a songwriting session with Ilan Kidron last year, and this was the song we worked on during our session.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Castle Hughes recorded ‘FairPlay’ last month at Perth’s Blondel Studios, where Chad Blondel worked as producer and mixer, and Chris Gehringer mastered the recording. The single will soon be accompanied by a music video, directed by Ben L’Aiguille. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castle Hughes has been involved with music all her life, beginning with violin as a toddler, then learning flute as she was growing up. At 13 she began singing, both with a number of choirs and in musical theatre. Her single, ‘Moving On’, released last year, has so far garnered more than 59 thousand streams on Spotify alone, and performed well in a number of songwriting competitions, including the International Songwriting Awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
