Set in a 50s style diner, and a living room straight out of ‘I Love Lucy’, the video for Estani’s new single, ‘Mr. Personality’ examines the feeling of being taken advantage of, and under-appreciated. The follow on from her single back in March, ‘I Sometimes Wish’, ‘Mr. Personality’ once again showcases Estani’s talent and versatility.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Having more than a decade of singing and songwriting experience, Estani has long-established her own personal style, which seamlessly blends Latin, jazz, soul, pop, and R&B, along with other genres. In stark contrast to the stripped down, emotional ballad that was ‘I Sometimes Wish’, Estani takes a more pop\/R&B direction for ‘Mr. Personality’, with horns, rhythm guitar, driving bass, and danceable beats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lyrics to ‘Mr. Personality’ had their origin in a much-needed venting session, when a few working relationships reached their tipping point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of the song, Estani says, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“working with people where nothing is ever enough gets tiring really quickly along with the constant feeling of needing to prove yourself. Eventually, it either breaks you down or you have a wake up call, realize your self worth, and find the validation you need within yourself rather than trying to find it through others opinions.”\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

While the ‘Mr Personality’ of the song is anonymous, it’s someone a lot of us can relate to, when our contributions are undervalued, and underappreciated, especially in situations where the other person still views you as the person we were when they first met you, rather than accepting the person you’ve become through your life experiences and maturity. Sometimes, it’s better to let go of the relationship, rather than suffer through the mental and emotional stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video for ‘Mr. Personality’ shows this incredibly well by way of the 1950s setting; no matter what Estani’s character does, whether at work or at home, it’s not good enough – her partner always finds fault in it. She serves him coffee and breakfast in the diner, and he spits out the coffee and rejects the food. Later at home, after she’s already slaved at work, she hurriedly tidies up before he comes in, and then waits on him hand and foot – he not only ignores the attention, but also finds fault with what she’s done. In the end, Estani snaps. She stops waiting on him, both at home and at work – literally throwing his breakfast at him – and walks away. Of course, it’s only after she takes this stand that he realises what he’s losing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
