Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, producer and best-selling author Richard Marx is a cultural touchstone whose influence remains steadfast in pop culture today having written and performed some of the most indelible pop hits of the late \u201980s and early \u201990s (‘Endless Summer Nights’, ‘Hold On To The Nights’, and ‘Right Here Waiting’). Now, Marx announces a new multi-genre-spanning album and debut on new label Shelter Records, ‘Songwriter’, out September 30th, detailing several decades of his discography and songwriting accolades across pop music, rock, country music and ballads.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Today, Marx also unveils the first preview of the album, the new pop song of the summer, ‘Same Heartbreak Different Day’, co-written with Lucas Marx (Katy Perry, Tyron Hapi, Refeci) and Michael Jade (Little Big Town, Andy Grammer, Rachel Platten). \u201cI\u2019ve had such an amazing opportunity in my songwriting career to write all kinds of songs with, and for, all kinds of artists,\u201d says Marx. \u201cIt finally occurred to me that there was no reason not to record an album of my own that touches on multiple genres I love.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Throughout his esteemed career Marx has made history as the only male artist whose first seven singles reached the Top 5 on the Billboard charts, and now he\u2019s showcasing this versatility directly with contributions from legendary American composer Burt Bacharach, Keith Urban, Evanescence\u2019s David Hodges and more of each genres\u2019 respective masters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years Richard Marx has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, starting with his self-titled debut which went to No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and spawned four Top 5 singles, including ‘Hold on to the Nights’, and ‘Don\u2019t Mean Nothing’, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and No. 1 spot on Billboard\u2019s Album Rock chart. Marx\u2019s follow-up, 1989\u2019s ‘Repeat Offender’, furthered his early success, hitting No. 1 and going quadruple-platinum with two No. 1 singles, ‘Satisfied’, and ‘Right Here Waiting’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marx has also written on a No. 1 single in each of the last four decades, an accolade previously only reached by Michael Jackson. He has written with numerous artists, including ‘To Where You Are’, the first hit single from Josh Groban\u2019s debut album, the NSYNC smash, ‘This I Promise You’, and\u00a0 ‘Crazy’, the song he co-wrote with country music megastar Kenny Rogers in 1984. He went on to earn a 2004 Song of the Year Grammy for co-authoring Luther Vandross\u2019 ‘Dance with My Father’. Overall, he has scored 14 No. 1 singles (including Keith Urban\u2019s No. 1 smash, ‘Long Hot Summer’), both as a performer and as a songwriter\/producer, revealing him a true multi-talented performer who continues to challenge himself and his fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Songwriter’ begins another busy year for Richard Marx who last Summer released his best-selling memoir ‘Stories To Tell’, available now via Simon & Schuster, and this week officially as a paperback edition. The literary debut recounts the singer\/songwriter\u2019s life and career \u2014 where all throughout he offers a ruminative and refreshingly candid account of his successes and failures in the music industry as he\u2019s experienced it over the last four decades. Also released last year was ‘The Vault – Vol. 1’, the first in a multi-run series of coloured vinyl EPs featuring unreleased demos and early material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
