Roger Daltrey is striking out across the UK this June and July, in a celebration of his solo material and The Who\u2019s classic songs. The Who Was I? With his first performance tonight, at Bournemouth International Centre, Roger has announced his touring line-up of incredible musicians who are set to join him:

Simon Townshend <\/strong>– Guitar and vocals – brother of Pete, fans will know Simon very well from countless Who shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doug Boyle<\/strong> – Guitar – played guitar for several years with Robert Plant, has played for Nigel Kennedy and in recent years has been a member of Caravan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geraint Watkins<\/strong> – Keyboards – Welshman and king of the keyboards, has played for Dave Edmunds, Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler and a host of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Hogg <\/strong>– Bass – from Indie band Moke, known, appropriately enough, for their 1990s single, \u2018My Degeneration\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jody Linscott <\/strong>– Percussion – is a regular on Who shows and solo shows for both Roger and Pete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billy Nicholls <\/strong>– Backing vocals – has been a major part of The Who family for so many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve \u2018West\u2019 Weston<\/strong> – Harmonica – one of Britain\u2019s top blues harp players \u2013 featured on the \u2018Going Back Home\u2019 album which Roger made with Wilko Johnson. Steve is also the harp player of choice for Mud Morganfield (Muddy Water\u2019s son) when Morganfield plays shows in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Townshend <\/strong>– Drums – son of Simon T, who has played on several of Simon\u2019s albums and albums by The Cornerstones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katie Jacoby<\/strong> – Violin – who else?!

Roger\u2019s special guest on all twelve shows will be Leslie Mendelson<\/a>.\u00a0 The Brooklyn based artist released her latest album \u2018If You Can\u2019t Say Anything Nice\u2026,\u2019 in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leslie has collaborated with Jackson Browne and the Grateful Dead\u2019s Bob Weir and so impressed The Who that they invited her to open two shows at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe truth is singers need to sing,\u201d says Roger, \u201cuse it or\u00a0lose it. The pandemic brought home to me what an important part of me singing is and it’s made me determined to get back onstage asap.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s also clear that live music is an important part of all our lives, something to free us from the groundhog days that life has become.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThroughout my life I have sung with so many great musicians, from the heavy Rock of The Who and Wilko Jonson, to the Irish lilt of the Chieftains. On this tour I want to take the audience on a musical journey through my career as a singer, with a show of songs and sounds that explores and surprises.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI look forward to having closer contact with my audience than festivals and arenas allow. Leaving time to chat. It’s important to get our road crew working again, without these guys the halls would go silent.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Roger\u2019s solo career began in 1973 with the single \u2018Giving It All Away\u2019 which reached number 5 in the UK charts. It was a track from his first solo album \u2018Daltrey\u2019, released that same year, which he followed up with 8 more albums, including 2018\u2019s acclaimed Top 10 UK charting \u2018As Long As I Have You\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As frontman of The Who, one of two remaining founding members of the British rock institution and perhaps the most exciting live bands of all time, Roger is rightly recognised as the one of the great vocalists.  Timeless songs like \u2018Won\u2019t Get Fooled Again\u2019, \u2018Substitute\u2019, \u2018My Generation\u2019, \u2018Behind Blue Eyes\u2019 and \u2018The Kids Are Alright\u2019 are just some of The Who\u2019s greatest hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the last 21 years, he has also been a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that builds specialised wards for teenagers with cancer in the UK. in 2000, Roger had the idea of setting up the first show at the Royal Albert Hall by ‘The Who & Friends’, with ticket sales and revenue from a DVD and CD raising over \u00a31.2 million. The Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall concerts have continued for the last 2 decades. In February 2005, Roger was awarded a CBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for his services to music and good causes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
