Chicago rocker Colin Peterik has never shied away from a musical challenge, and so his latest single, a cover of the Lana Del Rey track, ‘West Coast’, was like a walk in the park.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Peterik has thrown himself headlong into his interpretation of Del Rey’s song; the original is arguably the highpoint of her album ‘Ultraviolence’, and it doesn’t pull any punches, drawing connections between showbiz, sexuality, freedom, and addictive behaviour. It’s not lost on Peterik, who was born into the music industry, being the son of Jim Peterik, founder of legendary band, Survivor. Colin has seen the highs and lows of the music world, and like Lana, he’s contemplated long and hard about the American myths, and how they’re presented (and distorted) in pop music, and he covers this in his upcoming album, ‘Everything And Nothing’, which was mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Craig Bauer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Peterik’s arrangement of ‘West Coast’ is a hard rocking track, he’s nonetheless preserved the vulnerability of the ‘Ultraviolence’ original, and in a way has only enhanced the menace of it. The video for ‘West Coast’ finds Peterik and his band in the studio, giving themselves over to the song, bewitched by its power as much as the listeners to the original.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
