Out today, 2 March, ‘Shine’ is the new single by Pacific North West artist, Pedro World Citizen. The song is a reggae arrangement of the well-known protest song, ‘This Little Light Of Mine’, by the Civil Rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer, and Pedro World Citizen releases it in order to continue to “Shine” a light on the ongoing Civil Rights Movement. Emerging reggae artist Pedro World Citizen characterises himself as a Dreamer, and he recorded this song as a reggae anthem, as well as a testimony to how far things have progressed, of how far we have come. There is of course, a long way to go, in order to achieve Voting and other rights for people from all walks of life, but at least we’re heading in the right direction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fannie Lou Hamer fought for voting rights for People of Colour throughout her life, and ‘This Little Light Of Mine’ served as her inspiration and anthem. In much the same way, Pedro World Citizen offers up his treatment of the song in ‘Shine’, to remind us that the fight needs to continue, and we must remember to always push for equity in terms of the right to vote, and to give everyone a direct voice into global affairs, adding, “we each have a valuable and shining light to be shared.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pedro World Citizen encourages his listeners to travel the world and widen their experience, and in effect, become world citizens, much like himself. He has played the Main Stage at the Make Music Day, Salem, Oregon, the Northwest World Reggae Festival, and World Beat Festival, a video of which features him playing ‘Shine’, and can be watched below:<\/p>\n\n\n
