Performing as Sentinel, Jasper Reilly and Geoff Minter make for a collaboration we never knew we needed. Their new single, ‘Good Morning To Mount Warning’, is a guitar-led story set to music; Minter, from New South Wales, providing the lyrical direction, while Reilly, a popular musician from Hobart, Tasmania, pulls it all together musically.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

If you’ve ever driven up the coast road from Sydney to Brisbane you’ll have seen the inspirational Mount Warning looming large out of the rainforest. At 1100 metres high, it’s the largest extinct volcano in the whole of the Southern Hemisphere, and serves as a sentinel to all those who see it. Its close proximity to Byron Bay means it’s also easily seen from the shore as well, hence it being given its English name by Lieutenant James Cook, as he sailed past. The people of Bundjalung Country, an area of Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland, gave the mountain a different name:
\n\u201cThe Bundjalung people who inhabited the region before European settlement named it Wollumbin, meaning cloud catcher. Nearby Byron Bay is the easternmost point in mainland Australia, so Mt Warning is the first place to greet the dawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s this meaning that Sentinel tap into with their song, ‘Good Morning To Mount Warning’. As they see the dawn break over the magnificent mountain they are drawn to think about everything the mountain means to them – you can talk about Everest and other mountains of the world, but – at least in Sentinel’s opinion – it’s Mount Warning and her secrets that is Australia’s best.<\/p>\n
