Out of West Virginia comes Cashavelly Morrison, and her new single, ‘Match Me’. The song is from her upcoming album, ‘Metamorphosis’, which is set for release on October 1.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

While Morrison has clearly been deeply steeped in the roots music traditions of her home state, she’s not let that hold her back from experimenting with other styles, and her first few albums were acoustic Americana records, which garnered her critical acclaim from both the music press and fans alike.<\/p>\n

In fact, Morrison was declared by Rolling Stone as being an, “Artist You Need To Know”, and she also received an Independent Music Award, for Best Alternative Country Album. Her 2018 release, ‘Hunger’, introduced a more full sound to her music, and she toured with her five piece band, sharing stages with Lera Lunn, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers and Matt Nathanson.<\/p>\n

Morrison’s band of seasoned musicians include her husband Ryan, and together they harness the Celtic sounds of her ancestry, while blending in some clearly more modern, indie, vibes. Speaking of ‘Metamorphosis’, Cashavelly said,<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was time to step off the path that was paved by family and culture and step into the dark woods where there\u2019s no trail. The pain of keeping all my bullshit down began to outweigh the pain it would take to finally bring it out. Once you don\u2019t take your own bullshit you wont take anyone else\u2019s either and you are fucking golden \u2018cause you are prepared to lose everything to live authentically.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

‘Metamorphosis’ was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios, in Ashville, North Carolina, and Cashavelly wrote a screenplay, co-produced, co-directed, choreographed, and starred in a feature film, designed to accompany the album. Tapping into that deep well of creativity, she explores the links and contrasts between the life we live in this physical realm, and the one that is unseen; the spirit and ego, and the self that is primitive, and uncivilised.<\/p>\n

New single, ‘Match Me’, premiered on Buzz Music, who said,<\/p>\n

“While offering a similar vocal tonality and delivery to Sarah McLachlan, Cashavelly Morrison is able to open our hearts and pitch camp with her relatable words and dreamy performance.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While we agree to a certain extent, we feel it’s more akin to the late great Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries – the lilting and tremulous vocal stylings capturing a strength that is not without some deep-seated fear or uncertainty – a vulnerability. The repeated “all you can do is trust” and “you think my power makes you a coward” reiterates this sensation. You get the overwhelming feeling that the protagonist would happily acquiesce, and let her vulnerabilities show, but now is not the time. She’s still guarded.<\/p>\n
