Continuously taking inspiration from the 70s and 80s for his sound, \u2018Weed &amp; Whisky Women\u2019 doesn&#8217;t disappoint, as it kicks off Pennan\u2019s 9th album, \u2018Cinema\u2019, which came out on June 25th, 2021. The lead single of the 11-track album was mixed by producer Kirk Kelsey (The Smashing Pumpkins).<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The production on &#8216;Weed &amp; Whisky Women&#8217; is turned up a bit and shakes things up; it has a fresh and psychedelic sound, with female vocals that weave in and out, adding a new richness and depth to the fast-paced song. Nonetheless, it&#8217;s still a classic Pennan Brae song, with dream-like guitar riffs and strong beating bongo drums. The lyrics play out like a reminder to no one else but Pennan: a reminder as to why he\u2019s giving up weed &amp; whisky women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Like most Pennan videos, the clip for &#8216;Weed &amp; Whisky Women&#8217; transports the viewer back to the psychedelic world of the 70s. Director Rob Fitzgerald pulls inspiration from the psychedelic, tiki-hut world of the \u201870s, opening with three silhouettes of dancing girls doing a hula. As the lyrics start to appear on the screen, the background changes into a never-ending lava lamp. Colours and images swirl together in a large clump.
