‘One Sun’ is the latest single from Eagle Johnson<\/a>, out today June 18. The track is from his forthcoming release ‘The Last Gun’, which is set for release on July 16.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We’ve written about Eagle Johnson a number of times before on EP, so the now Nashville-based artist should need no further introduction.<\/p>\n

The new track is a light and airy 60s inspired piece, with jangly guitars and what should be a cacophonic mess of sound, but instead is a pleasing layering of instrumentals, overlayered by Johnson’s characteristic and instantly recognisable drawl. No single instrument is allowed to over-power any of the others, and the result is that when listened to in isolation, each layer could serve as well on its own as in unity with the rest. Not just one sun, it seems, but one sound.<\/p>\n

Johnson, who we last heard from with his weed inspired song, ‘All My Friends<\/a>‘, released appropriately on April 20, found his way to music via a stint in a state-run mental health facility, where he was allowed to play guitar and sing as part of his therapy treatment. It certainly did the trick.<\/p>\n

Once he was released with a clean bill of health, Eagle set upon evolving into a bona fide songwriter. He heard blues and American folk music calling his name, so he headed to Memphis, and started playing local shows, including opening for Valerie June, and garnering the praise of the self-proclaimed \u201clast of the original delta-bluesmen\u201d, Zeke Johnson, who died in 2019. Zeke took Eagle under his wing, and passed along the delta blues stylings that he himself had been taught by the masters, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Furry Lewis.<\/p>\n
