Lucia Cifarelli, on her new single, ‘Girls Like Me’, sings, “I think it’s better you know I have a dark side”. It’s a formidable introduction to the solo work of the singer who’s best known from her long association with German industrial band, KMFDM, as well as her own alt rock band, Drill.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The track, from her upcoming album, ‘I Am Eye’, is brash, smart, outspoken, and above all, danceable – as well as upbeat, inspiring, and containing some of that little black magic that comes with everything Cifarelli does. In short, it’s everything that her fans and followers have come to love about her music.<\/p>\n

‘I Am Eye’ has been a long time coming; it’s Cifarelli’s first solo long player since her scorching 2003 release, ‘From The Land Of Volcanos’. She’s worked with KMFDM frontman and co-producer Sascha Konietzko on this new album to find a striking middle ground between a post-industrial rumble and contemporary pop-rock. Additionally, her feminism and fighting spirit are brought to the foreground on ‘Girls Like Me’, which comes over like an anthem and a personal statement. It’s easy to see how it could well apply to the lives of millions of women – right from the very first verse.<\/p>\n

No less expressive or personal, the video for ‘Girls Like Me’, nonetheless leaves Cifarelli herself a mystery. The singer turns her camera on women of all kinds: some young, some old, some visibly badass, some apparently sweet, but all containing apparent reserves of strength. Lucia has a gift for capturing the personalities of her subjects in a few quick strokes. Although we don’t personally know the stars of the ‘Girls Like Me’ clip, we still know them, or at least, girls like them – girls like me. Lucia Cifarelli identifies with them all, and makes sure we will, too.<\/p>\n
