Up-and-coming rapper Que 9 is a born storyteller, and he has been doing it with his music since 2016. The Detroit native, who was born Quarrion Philips, has never been afraid to put himself out there and tell the world what he feels. He started at the age of four, playing instruments in his basement, which evolved into making and creating ringtones. Since then, Que has been filled with the urge to create the best music possible while still being relatable and honest with his listeners.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Taking his inspiration from the iconic sounds of Jay Z, we can certainly hear some of that same boldness throughout Que 9’s work. His latest EP, ‘Testimony’, serves as a bridge between Que 9, the artist and Quarrion, the man, and his latest single, ‘4 Life’, which features Nani Goins, is just the latest sneak peek into his impressive world.<\/p>\n

‘4 Life’ is upbeat and catchy, but there’s a certain vulnerability that emerges when you take a deep dive into the words. We go on an emotional journey through a relationship, albeit one that’s been masked by an incredible dance beat. That vulnerability is further exacerbated in the lyrics, which are written in a beautiful and poetic way. Que 9 describes the kind of unbreakable relationship that people hope to have someday, one that even after all the obstacles, and opinions of others, never wavers. The breathtaking vocals of Nani Goins, alongside Que 9’s quick, smart rapping make for a wonderfully indulgent listening experience.<\/p>\n

It’s a bit of a badass song, and calls for a badass video, and thankfully the clip for ‘4 LIfe’ is exactly that. Opening with\u00a0Nani sitting on a couch she flips through the channels on TV. Eventually, Que 9 sits down next to her, pushing her off whenever she tries to get close to him. We follow the couple through the living room, into the kitchen, where the bickering never seems to end. But in between shots of them in the kitchen, we see the duo outside serenading each other in the middle of the street. Eventually they calm down, and they’re finally able to enjoy each other’s company.<\/p>\n
