The name “sad alex” was given to her by her close friend Justin Pagano, as Alex was looking for a performance name. Her new single, ‘california queen’, is a little bit sad too.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Pulling at the heartstrings, ‘california queen’ takes us back to when Alex first moved to LA and her memories of everywhere she went was intertwined with those of a particular person, and thereafter it was impossible to visit those places without thinking of them. It’s airy, but slightly chilling; after the relationship ended all Alex had were painful memories wherever she went. She takes her inspiration from the edginess of Linkin Park, while also being influenced by the somewhat whimsical pop of Kelly Clarkson. Alex’s voice is gorgeously raspy, and it clings to the emotion in every note. ‘california queen’ is a beautiful song with an edgy bite, and it\u2019s guaranteed to be addictive.<\/p>\n

Just as whimsical as the song is the video for ‘california queen’. Alex sits at a white piano, in the middle of a warehouse. As she finishes the first chorus, she’s joined by a man, who quite literally sweeps her off her feet into an\u00a0emotional and beautifully choreographed contemporary dance. As the video ends, Alex returns to her position at the piano, playing the rest of the song.<\/p>\n
