Los Angeles based artist Blxst has been honing his sound since 2015, diving headfirst into releasing his music in 2016, with his first single, ‘Who Would’ve Thought’. He’s unstoppable: producing his own music and editing his own music videos as well, he’s the full package, and it’s seen him work alongside hip hop legends such as YG, and Kendrick Lamar. In 2019 he released his single, ‘Hurt’, which has so far reached 2 million streams; his 2020 release, ‘No Love Lost’, has found similar success. It stands to reason that his new single, ‘Overrated’, should follow suit, and, already making moves in the world of hip hop, it’s the exact opposite of Overrated.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A thought-provoking track with a calm, slow tempo, ‘Overrated’ opens with gentle guitar, before the energetic beat drops, getting the listener in the mood. While the rhythm remains slow, the bass amps up a gear, and will certainly get some looks while you’re stopped at a red light.<\/p>\n

Lyrically, it’s quite deep, with Blxs opening up about his relationship with love, and how he thinks that it’s overrated. Repeating through the verses about how all he wants is loyalty in a person, and he’d rather not ruin a good thing by labelling it. It’s an intelligently crafted song altogether.<\/p>\n

The music video for ‘Overrated’ works like a short film, with a nostalgic vibe. Directed by James of Meanwhle Productions, and starring Essyonna, and Flynnalkapone, it’s part 1 of the ‘No Love Lost’ series, and opens with Essyonna narrating what sounds like a love letter to Blxst and the city of Los Angeles. Blxst and friends are driving around LA, palm trees framing the clip. They pull up their convertible (top down of course) to a backyard barbeque, where they meet up with friends and share some good food and good vibes. Ending with big red letters that say, “To Be Continued\u2026”, the video certainly puts us in the mood for what Blxst has lined up next.<\/p>\n
