‘Precious’ is the new single for Amy Blaschke, taken from her 7th studio album, ‘Newage Daydream’. All proceeds from the track go to benefit Child Mind Institute, an independent, national non-profit organisation, dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. Any Bowie fan will recognise the reference in Amy Blaschke’s record’s name, the obvious nod to ‘Moonage Daydream’; “Newage” sets out to provoke the listener into different spaces, of a nebulous emotional, and psychological state. This is certainly the case with ‘Precious’, which features Blaschke playing guitar, accompanying her ethereal, early 70s influenced vocals, and swirling, space-y instrumentals.<\/p>\n

The music video for ‘Precious’, released on March 2, and directed by indie filmmaker Chloe Taylor, opens with Blaschke walking up stairs with her groceries. In keeping with the sound of the song, she’s dressed in a 70s style mini dress, and her shopping is carried in paper bags. Everything is black and white as she walks into her apartment…and suddenly we realise her partner is playing with a games console. Okay then? It seems like she is the dutiful, submissive partner of a lost generation, while her man is quite happy to be waited on hand and foot. Her time, her life, is precious. She’s alive and doesn’t want to throw away her time on earth, it’s precious; yet she ominously looks at the drugs in the medicine cabinet…Eventually however, she decides she’s had enough, and packs her few meagre possessions, and breaks out of the black and white life into a world of glorious, super-8 style, colour.<\/p>\n
