The video for her latest single, the alt-pop soul track ‘Strange Luv’, alternative pop soul, is an exercise in sheer transcendence, and sees the artist wake up in a parallel dimension, with her every step she takes one of magic and discovery.

Butta B-Rocka is accompanied on her journey by Atlanta rapper Homer MC, whose verses he raps on ‘Strange Luv’ are wild and witty, friendly, odd, and somewhat off-kilter. They’re make the perfect complement to Butta B-Rocka’s bright, warm verses and the danceable funk of her band. The track builds on the success of Butta B-Rocka’s recent single, ‘Promise Land’, which established her as a songwriter with a broad vision, one that encompassed folk, R&B, classic rock, and world music. The song has found a resonance with listeners as well, and has been streamed tens of thousands of times on Spotify and other services.

The video for ‘Strange Luv’, directed by Mazi O, gives a nod in the direction of Alice In Wonderland, with its wild costumes and psychedelic garden-party aesthetic. It ten takes a different direction, a tangled trail of Butta’s invention. She comes face to face with Homer MC and her band, who have been transformed into enchanted beings by the forest’s spell. Mazi O and Butta B-Rocka have named their parallel dimension “Butta Butta Land”, a place where impossible dreams come true and where identity is never fixed. Even Butta B-Rocka herself is changed – if only in her outrageous costume. The implication of the clip is clear however: love is a strange thing, and if you surrender to it, you’ll never be the same.

Watch ‘Strange Luv’ below, and visit Butta B-Rocka’s website for more information about this artist and her music.

Butta B-Rocka makes funky, colourful, and immersive music that’s danceable, thought-provoking, and more than a bit otherworldly.
