The Deathray Davies have today dropped their new single, ‘Oh Stars’, ahead of their new album, ‘Time Well Wasted’, which comes out on February 12.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The new track follows on from ‘Then You Met Me’, and ‘Talking With Friends’, which were the band’s first releases in 15 years.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the sound of the British Invasion of the 60s – you know, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks et al – ‘Oh Stars’ probably owes something to the British Invasion of the 70s and 80s as well, having a major guitar and drums sound that will resonate with fans of The Jam, Elvis Costello, and The Cure, among others.<\/p>\n

Of course, despite taking time off from The Deathray Davies for more than a decade, the members haven’t been resting on their laurels, and kept on creating and performing, with regular readers recalling that we wrote about John Dufilho’s output with Dallas band CLIFFFS<\/a> (yes, with three Fs).<\/p>\n

Speaking of the album, the ever-prolific Dufilho said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI quickly wrote 13 songs in a row, realizing right away that they were\u00a0DRD\u00a0songs. I sent demos to the band, asking if they wanted to jump back in. Right away, everyone wrote back \u201cHELL\u00a0YES!\u201d A 15 year nap\u2026suddenly we\u2019re awake.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Opening with a thrumming drumbeat from lifelong DRD member, Jason Garner, ‘Oh Stars’ could well be autobiographical, as the lyrics talk about not slowing down, but rather, winding up. It’s a great piece that will have you hitting replay over and over (and we have already). Let’s hope there’s not another 15 years until the next DRD album – but even if there is, ‘Time Well Wasted’ has a lot of great songs to listen to in the meantime.<\/p>\n
