Rapper Da\u0179aY grew up in New York City, and along with his friends in high school, made a name for himself in the studio, in the collective, The Vagabondz, containing a roster of producers, singers, songwriters, and visual artists, and named for their nomadic lifestyles.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Following high school, Da\u0179aY went on to study music business, and learned the importance of putting on a good live show. He’s opened for Joey Bada$$, and done a live session with Sofar Sounds. He’s not just a hip hop artist; he also experiments with rock, R&B, and essentially any music that strikes a chord with him.<\/p>\n

Lockdown has given Da\u0179aY a lot of free time, and he’s used it wisely, recording ‘Where 2 Go Vol. III’ in his Mom’s garage. Each theme on the record centres on lockdown in America, and the struggles everyone has had with it, and it went a long way to helping him make sense of all that was going on around him. Da\u0179aY’s previous EPs capture every aspect of his life; this new album is no different, and it lifted him out of the dark place he found himself trapped in.<\/p>\n

In the music video for his new single, ‘Quarantine’, Da\u0179aY describes how he’s reflected on what he’s been experiencing, the redefinition of his outlook on life, and priorities. He talks about going outside for the first time in months, using the metaphor of having to break out of a mental lockdown. His neighbourhood of Harlem, and his crew, are all represented in the clip, including direction by Reilly Balcom, who’s done videos for a number of artists based in the area. Shot on a sunny day, somewhat contradicting the laid back hip hop beat, there are butterflies flying through the clip, symbolic of the transformation, and growth, that Da\u0179aY has undergone during lockdown.<\/p>\n
