Satin-smooth voiced Queera Nightly, based in Oakland, California, was raised in a strict religious household, and consequently had a struggle to find herself while growing up. The artist is set to release her debut album, ‘The Girl Who Fell’, in the spring next year, and the title track is out today.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

An artist, musician, and drag performer, Queera Nightly identifies as Gender Queer, and has often found herself questioning where she fit in the world. Now she’s on her way to finding her place – signed to OIM Records, an Oakland indie label, and her new album a tell-all, packed solidly with her darkest secrets, fantasies, and torch songs.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the album, Queera Nightly says,<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve worn different masks throughout my life: the devoted follower, the politician, the wayward soul. At times I felt more at ease behind a mask, safe from people\u2019s judgement of who I really was. I thought that that would keep me safe, but it only made me feel more and more alone. I felt confined to a box of who I could be. And once I left that box I never could go back.

To The Girl\u00a0Who Fell\u201d<\/p>\n

The single is accompanied by a music video, deceptively simple, yet exquisitely elegant, focusing on Queera Nightly, as she sings, standing variously in front of a red curtain, a white curtain, and sitting on a box. Perhaps the most evocative image sees her trying to escape from inside a frame – to get out of the box she has been put in, to free herself from the labels. Her voice is tender, yet fraught with pain; the guitar instrumental sympathetic to Queera’s sound.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
