‘Free Now’, the latest album by Brooklyn singer songwriter Drew Citron, was written in the wake of an emotionally devastating breakup, and through nine self-reflective songs Citron examines the destabilisation, hope, disappointment, and excitement. Title track ‘Free Now’ sees Citron go for broke, and channelling Lana del Rey, pulls every ounce of pain and joy out of the song with her incredible voice.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the video for ‘Free Now’, Citron brought on board Laura-Lynn Petrick, a photographer whose vision has been implemented in work with bands such as Real Estate, Anemone, Whitney, Weyes Blood, Lisel, Alvvays, and many other contemporary artists. As can be seen in the clip, Petrick’s speciality is dream-drenched landscape photography, and with ‘Free Now’ she’s given the video a 1960s vibe, and Citron takes on the guise of someone from that era so well that you’d not know she’s from the here and now. We’re reminded of Marianne Faithfull, in some respects. As with the song, in the clip she’s trying to get free of all her constraints; by the end, she certainly is.<\/p>\n
