Texas based musical artist HiL has release his nine track album, ‘Flamingo Isle’.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The genre-crossing record takes us from pop rock to R&B, to hip hop and draws clear influence from Prince, with HiL’s vocal style in particular, while the artist also cites Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Childish Gambino as inspirations.<\/p>\n

With the drawling sultriness of the title track setting us up for what lays ahead, HiL lets rip with full on sex in second song, ‘Sweetness’. HiL’s pure R&B vocals are more than pleasantly offset by the nearly Calypso rhythms.<\/p>\n

Track 3, ‘Curls’ leaves you in no doubt about his inspirations; it’s a song that could easily have come out of the fabled Paisley Park vault. ‘On Top’, meanwhile, the 4th song on the album, harks back to more retro roots.<\/p>\n

‘Mocha’, the 5th song on the album, acts as a marker in between the two halves of the record. Opening in Spanish, it’s super catchy and, as in HiL’s own words,<\/p>\n

Born Hilsenton Alcee in Houston, HiL is currently based in Austin, Texas. He started out in music at 16 armed only with a midi piano, music software, and a computer belonging to his older brother. HiL’s first LP, ‘Regulas Revenge’, was a hip hop album, while the follow-up, ‘No Room For Angels’, took a step closer to full-blown pop. Now, with ‘Flamingo Isle’, he continues his journey.
