Denver folk-rock band Milquetoast and Company bring flights of fancy not just to their latest single, ‘Hummingbirds’, but also to the accompanying animated music video. The clip sees the band join forces with animator and visual artist Brendan Huza, winner of Genero TV’s “Director of the Year” award.

‘Hummingbirds’ is a theatrical single, so it demanded a music video of the same calibre. Huza’s distinctive visual style plays with texture, and dimensionality, as well as paper cut-outs. He’s worked with artists including Aretha Franklin, Alanis Morissette, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Bingo Players, among others – and he brings to this video the perfect example of his talent.

Focusing on Huza’s distinctive paper cut-outs, they stand out against a background palette of mostly browns and blacks. A man pastes together scraps of photographs against a wall, to form the image of a woman. She springs to life when hummingbirds burst through the image, causing much amazement to the man.

All is not as it seems however, as the man himself is possessed by a dark spirit that emerges to threaten his love. He’s created a potential new life for himself, yet he is not truly free. Watch the music video for ‘Hummingbirds’ below. You can find out more about Milquetoast and Company online on their official website.
