‘mhm’ is the result of a collaboration between David Boone’s project, alberta, and his friends, Erik “nuntheless” Washington, and Michael Snyder, who make up The Dead Eyes. The track, released October 23, comes from their album, ‘No, No. You Go’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Beginning when Boone returned to Detroit to visit his friends, the three musicians, of course, decided to have a jam, and liked the result. The trio took their sound on the road for a short tour in August last year, with the result that the three individual musicians gelled so well together that they had no choice but to make their experiment a real group. They made plans to record new music together in the new year, and to release the album with an accompanying tour…well…you know how that went.<\/p>\n

Still, in spite of living on opposite ends of the country, alberta & The Dead Eyes wrote, recorded, and finished their album – virtually – by way of phone, video calls, and file sharing demos, back and forth, over several months. The album takes into account Washington’s experience in hip hop and house production, as well as Synder’s bass playing virtuosity, and Boone’s songwriting talent. A taster of ‘No, No. You Go’ (which in itself sounds like it’s come from the many phone calls between the three – who among us has not ended a call that way?), ‘mhm’ is a languid, sort of spacey sounding piece, with drawn out vocals and smokey instrumentals. There’s a clear 60s\/70s influence to the sound, with maybe a hint of Aerosmith (think ‘Janey’s Got A Gun’). It’s a great introduction to alberta & The Dead Eyes’ sound, more of which can be heard on Spotify<\/a>.<\/p>\n
