‘Disaster’, by Ultra Major, harks back to those days when all you needed was a few friends, a few chords, and an earworm of a song to have a hit. There’s no gimmicks with these guys though, it’s straight up fuzzed-out rock guitars reminiscent of the 90s, the sort of thing that you listen to for years after.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Singer Ty Jontz, who along with the other guys in the band, Nicholas Tardif on guitar, Eric Michael Parson on drums, and AJ Tobey on bass, debuted the track on Mint 400, an indie station in New Jersey, and he says of the music writing process,<\/p>\n

“We wrote a lot of jams. We ordered a lot of take-out. We scrapped a lot of jams. We ate all the take out.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The track is simplicity in music form, not one bell or whistle to be had, but a whole lot of fun has definitely occurred. With two soaring Fender guitars and enough kick to slot the atmospherics into the bass, you feel as though Ultra Major are channelling the best of the 9os haircut bands, with all their hooks and nuances. The track is a disaster in name only – it’ll keep you\u00a0hitting that replay button all afternoon…and then some.<\/p>\n

The music video feels as though we’re catching the band in the middle of their set, having first imbibed a few cold ones. Backed by darkness, there’s just enough stage lights to point them out, and it’s not entirely certain if the lights are moving. Someone in a skeleton tshirt lurks nearby, along with a sketchy sort who’s burning white candles…in her open palm. Who are these characters…we’re not sure…definitely not someone we’d be up for meeting in the middle of the night!<\/p>\n
