‘Getting Back To It Now’, set for release tomorrow, October 16, is the new single from Darren Jesse’s sophomore album, ‘Remover’. Best known as co-founder and drummer for Chapel Hill alt-pop act, Ben Folds Five, Jesse has had a 25 year history in the music business, and has released music since 2004 under the nom de plume of Hotel Lights. ‘Getting Back To It Now’ is the follow up to the single, ‘Cape Elizabeth’, which we wrote about at the end of July<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Wordsmith Jessee returns with his guitar, along with a live session music video which this time sees his sweet soft voice echoing in a recording studio, where he’s accompanied by a pianist. All eyes are on Darren however, as he closes his eyes and draws the listener in. There’s artwork on the walls – but they’re not the first things we see, nor care about; it’s all about Jessee’s voice. In fact, his lyrics are what paints a picture as he sings of driving south away from the snowy streets – we accompany him as the “highway flowers change”, and he thinks of blackberry pies, and sitting under Spanish Moss.<\/p>\n

‘Remover’, out through Bar None Records<\/a>, is the follow-up to ‘The Jane, Room 217’. In ‘Getting Back To It Now’ Jessee tugs at our emotions with his pensive, reflective style, and although it’s incredibly sombre in flavour, it’s nonetheless compelling; we want to maybe give him a hug and tell him it’s all going to be alright. He’s going to get back to it. Now.<\/p>\n
