Born and raised in Harlem, New York City, Gospel artist Tisha Hunter is no stranger to the music industry, having achieved great success in the early 1990s as part of the RnB girl group, Ex-Girlfriend, who were signed to Warner\/Reprise by music biz legend, Benny Medina. Their song, ‘Why Can’t You Come Home’ hit the number 3 spot on the Billboard charts. They followed this up with appearances on Soul Train, BET, Showtime At The Apollo, world tours, music videos, and on movie soundtracks. Ex-Girlfriend was the opening act for Prince in 1992 at the Jack the Rapper music convention, and were later invited to perform at his club in Minneapolis.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Tisa kept going after the group disbanded, singing backing vocals for J. T. Taylor, of legendary band, Kool And The Gang. From there she became a member of Gospel group RCE, now known as RJC Productions. This group made appearances on the Dr. Oz Show, and their first single, ‘Comfort Me’, was balloted for Grammy.<\/p>\n

The tragic deaths of her Mother, Grandmother, Grandfather and Husband, although occurring at different times, caused Tisha to contemplate an emptiness in her life. She found solace in 2004 when she became a member of the St Luke Baptist Church, in Harlem, where she became a choir disciple, and later elevated to the position of Choir Director and Psalmist by her Pastor, the late Johnnie G. McCann Sr.<\/p>\n

In 2019 Tisha released the Gospel song, ‘All We Know’, which was written by the late Bob Arrington and Mark South. Her latest single, ‘Right Now’, featured on the ‘Exodus’ compilation album, and sees her combining her two passions – singing and writing songs in order to give glory to God, as well as to give encouragement to others. Tisha takes as her motto her favourite Bible verse, from Matthew 6:33 – “Seek ye first the Kingdom Of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”<\/p>\n

In the video for ‘Right Now’, we see Tisha as the central focal point, opening her arms, giving glory to God. Dancing on the dockside, and on the steps of her Church, she bops in time to her music, encouraging listeners to see the light. Supported by a jaunty piano instrumental, Tisha’s voice rings out strong and loud as she implores that we come to Jesus – right now.<\/p>\n
