Back in February, before the world went mad, Liverpool based singer songwriter Amie K released her single, ‘Bliss’. In a mere six months everything seems to have gone to hell in a handbasket, but thankfully Amie K is still going strong, and today has released a double A side, ‘Playing With Smoke \/ Glow’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Amie draws her inspiration from other female vocalists such as Maggie Rogers, and Laura Marling, and this is clear with guitar-led ‘Playing With Smoke’, which is an interesting variation on the phrase ‘Playing With Fire’, and suggests someone who wants to throw caution to the wind but doesn’t quite dare. The song itself conjures up those folky house parties, spent chatting all night, and righting all that’s wrong with the world. More often than not there’s someone sitting in the corner playing guitar and singing sweetly, and in our imaginations, that’s Amie.<\/p>\n

In contrast, second track ‘Glow’ is a laid back piano ballad, Amie’s pure voice rising up in perfect harmony with the instrument. Both tracks are stunning, and although they deal with feelings of grief, disconnection, and personal growth, the subjects are treated with such delicacy and respect that they’re almost love songs to those feelings.<\/p>\n

Both tracks are released ahead of an EP, which is expected to be released later this year, and were recorded and produced by Amie’s younger brother.<\/p>\n
