It’s 2020 and basically we do everything with our phones. We can’t leave the house, leave the room…even go to the toilet without taking it with us. It’s how we keep in touch with our friends, our family, the world, we take photos, we play games, we watch music videos, we listen to music, we use social media. We use them to stalk our exes on Instagram, and we stay up half the night worrying what a particular emoji means in a text. Ironically, using it as an actual telephone is probably quite low on the list of things of why we use these indispensable pieces of tech. You’re probably reading this on your phone right now.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Aces know all too well about the part phones play in our lives these days, and their latest single, ‘My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me’, which they wrote with Justin Tranter (known for his work with Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande, among others), and was produced by Zach Skelton (Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes), not only covers this subject, but – due to quarantine keeping them apart – was used to shoot the accompanying music video.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the new single, The Aces say,<\/p>\n

“‘My Phone is Trying to Kill Me’ is a song we wrote about what it\u2019s like to be growing up in the social media age. How we are all so addicted to our phones, and how someone leaving you on read can ruin your whole day. We are in a time where we are more connected than ever because of our phones, but at the same time everyone feels so lonely. It\u2019s strange, and this song feels like we are kinda screaming those frustrations.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The clip for ‘My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me’ is quality quarantine footage. Each member of the band is showing trying to destroy their phone, in as many ways as they can possibly come up with. They throw it in a lake, flush it down the toilet, throw it out the window, bury it in some gravel. No matter what they do, no matter how hard they try, they cannot get rid of them: as if by magic, it reappears, haunting them. All in all the video is an analogy of how much these devices rule our lives, and determine if we’re going to have a good day or bad. We don’t have to bury our phones in the mountains like The Aces, but sometimes we need to take stock and realise they aren’t really in control – we should put them down more often and live in the moment.<\/p>\n

The up tempo song is reminiscent of Carly Rae Jepsen and will have you humming along right from the start, and then hitting replay.<\/p>\n

“Given the time, we\u2019re not able to make music videos in the way we normally would, but we didn\u2019t wanna let that stop us. So we decided to grab our phones and cameras and take the matter into our own hands and make a little home made music video for ‘My Phone is Trying to Kill Me’. It ended up being hilarious and so much fun to make and we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
