All over the world, talented young musical artists are being shut up in basements and their bedrooms, with musical instruments. Their genres might differ but they all have the same aim in mind – to write a ‘Big Hit Song’. No less so is John Paciga, who is not a stranger to readers of Essentially Pop by any means.

The multi-talented singer-songwriter can pretty much do it all. As he demonstrates in his new music video, he is a one-man band, able to play piano, bass, drums, and guitar with equal skill. His talent goes beyond this, he’s got a great ear for sound, and manages to make all his recorded tracks sound amazing, despite being “home made”.

John’s sense of humour rings through in ‘Big Hit Song’ as well. It’s an acknowledgment of the New Jersey artist’s ambitions, and takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the often fickle nature of the pop audience. he takes the problem in hand in the only way he knows how: with an energetic performance and a buoyant melody which will you tapping your toes and singing along almost immediately.

In the clip for ‘Big Hit Song’, Paciga effectively gives his musical instruments a workout, and in three and a half minutes we see his basement come to life as much as any pop-rock club. It’s of course, no substitute for the real thing, but we’ll take it, and we’ll dream of the time when we can experience it once again.
